Chicago Fire jump in latest MLS Power Rankings

Power Rankings

The Chicago Fire's 4-1 win over the reigning MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders gave the Fire the three points they needed to move above the red line in the Eastern Conference, but where did they land in the latest MLS Power Rankings?

The answer: the Fire climbed three spots from the previous week, matching their season high-water mark at No. 10. The ability to stay organized throughout the match and wear down a formidable in the second half did not go unnoticed by league onlookers.

Here's what the architects of the MLS Power Rankings had to say about the Men In Red:

It seemed like a cathartic win for the Fire on Saturday night. In what was just their second sell-out since 2015, they spanked Seattle and looked good doing it – solid on defense, multi-faceted in the final third and devastating on the break.

Need more good news? The Fire can keep the momentum rolling right away when they play their first midweek match of the season on Wednesday (May 17), hosting Tim Howard and the Colorado Rapids at Toyota Park (7:30 p.m., CSN Chicago Plus). The Rapids, for what it's worth, checked in at No. 21 (out of 22) after picking up a much-needed 3-0 win at home over the Quakes on Saturday.
