FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (August 9, 2016) ā€“ The Chicago Fire fell 3-1 to the New England Revolution on Tuesday night in the semifinal round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament.

New England forward Kei Kamara opened the scoring in Foxborough after defender Rodrigo Ramos was called for a foul inside the penalty area. Ramos got a foot in on a Kelyn Rowe dribble at the upper corner of the 18-yard box and was whistled, setting up Kamara for a spot kick finish to Fire goalkeeper Matt Lampsonā€™s right.

David Accam leveled things in the 40th minute with his fifth goal of the tournament. Michael de Leeuw pulled the ball down in traffic at the top of the Revolution 18 and managed to play the ball to Accam, coming across the face of the net. After a touch back inside, Accam stranded his defender and coolly placed the ball into the New England net to make the score 1-1.

It was Accam's fifth goal in U.S. Open Cup play this season, tying him for the tournament's Golden Boot honor to date and moving him into sole possession of fifth on the Chicago Fire's list of all-time leading Open Cup goal-scorers (5).

The even score wouldnā€™t last long, as defender Je-Vaughn Watson returned the lead to New England just two minutes later. After a Chris Tierney corner kick fell into the box, the ensuing scramble resulted in a Watson tap-in to make the score 2-1 going into halftime.

Both teams would trade possession and half-chances throughout the final 45 minutes, but Teal Bunbury would ultimately seal things late for New England. His 85th minute left-footed attempt from distance floated past Lampsonā€™s diving save attempt and capped things at 3-1.

The Fire return to Toyota Park to resume MLS play on Sunday, August 14, against Orlando City SC. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT, with coverage on UniMas and 97.5 FM Poder.
