academy recap 5

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (Mar. 1, 2023) - Chicago Fire Academy returns to the Windy City following a strong showing on the road against the Michigan Jaguars FC. All four academies were in action at the Legacy Center Sports Complex in Brighton, Mich. this past weekend.

U-13 Academy

The youngest of the four academies kicked things off for the Fire Academy. Opening the weekend on a strong note, the U-13’s defeated the Jaguars 3-1 led by a brace from Miguel Campos and a tally from Xavi Cervantes. Cervantes also had an assist in the match to help lead the Fire to an 8-4-2 record this season. The victory ties Chicago with SC Wave for second place in the division, however the Wave currently hold the advantage with less games played.

They’ll go back on the road this weekend to face Beadling SC on Sunday, March 5 at the Highland Sports Complex in Triadelphia, West Virginia. Kickoff is slated for 9:00 a.m. CT.

U-14 Academy

More strong performances followed for the Fire Academy, this time at the hands of the division leading U-14 squad. Also facing the Jaguars, they picked up three points and the clean sheet in a 2-0 victory. A pair of goals from Robert Turdean and Nolan Weiss would be all the Fire needed to record their 13th win of the regular season. With the victory, they now extend their undefeated streak to 14 games and have a 15 point cushion between second-place St. Louis Scott Gallagher.

The U-14’s will also head to West Virginia this weekend, set to face off against Beadling SC on Sunday, March 5 at the Highland Sports Complex in Triadelphia. They’re set to immediately follow the U-13’s at 10:15 a.m. CT.

U-15 Academy

Yet another impressive streak continues! One of the most talented teams in MLS NEXT extends their undefeated streak to 13 games with a 4-0 rout against the Jaguars on Sunday. A brace from Aaron Ineh and two goals from Parker Amoo-Mensah and Vitally Hlyut led the U-15’s to their 10th consecutive win in MLS NEXT Flex play. The victory has them tied for first in Flex play with the Crew Academy, however Chicago holds the advantage in matches played, as well as points-per-match.

The U-15’s look to make it 11-in-a-row this Sunday, March 5 as they head to West Virginia and face off against Beadling SC. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT.

U-17 Academy

The oldest members of the Chicago Fire Academy didn’t fare as well in their match this weekend. Despite goals from Kamden Held and Max Padua, the U-17’s dropped the final match of the weekend 3-2 against Michigan. With the loss, the Fire drop to fifth place in the Mid-America division with a record of 5-3-2 in MLS NEXT Play.

The U-17’s will have a bye weekend before heading on the road to take on the Indiana Fire Academy on Saturday, March 11. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. CT.
