Fire host inspiring local family in celebration of CNN's Champions for Change

On April 5, 2019, the Chicago Fire had the honor of hosting the Hill family and Heather Abbot of the Heather Abbott Foundation for a memorable afternoon at SeatGeek Stadium as part CNN's "Champions for Change" series.

Abbott, a survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing, has since dedicated her life to improving the lives of fellow amputees. Eight-year-old Jude Hill is a recipient of prosthetics from Abbott’s foundation. Hill and his family were surprised by Abbott and the entire Fire first team in a celebration of the young man's spirit and soccer fandom.

"You're an inspiration," Chicago Fire captain Dax McCarty told Hill.

CNN's Poppy Harlow tells the story of how their lives intersected in the video above. For more on CNN's "Champions for Change" series, visit CNN.com.
