After making his MLS debut off the bench Saturday at Toyota Park, Chicago Fire rookie Jon Bakero turned in a memorable performance for Tulsa Roughnecks FC -- the Fire's USL affiliate -- Wednesday in Fresno, Calif.
Bakero was a halftime substitute for the Roughnecks in their road match against Fresno FC, making an immediate impact with his side trailing 1-0 at the intermission. Minutes after his introduction, Bakero found space on the left edge of the penalty area and lofted a smart service across the box to an onrushing Paris Gee. Gee rose to meet the cross and headed it to the far post, leveling the score at 1-1.
The home side seemed destined for three points after a 71st-minute go-ahead goal, but Bakero had the final say late on in the match. Bakero got in behind the Fresno FC defense and received a well-played back-heel pass, collecting and finishing past one-time Fire goalkeeper Kyle Reynish for a stunning equalizer on the final kick of the game.
Fire goalkeeper Stefan Clevelandjoined Bakero on loan for the match and recorded four saves in the 2-2 draw.
Tulsa Roughnecks FC (0-2-3) is back in action with a return trip to California on Saturday, April 28, facing Sacramento Republic FC at 9:30 PM CT.
