CHICAGO(Nov. 1, 2017) â€“ The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Wednesday that midfielder Juninho underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today. The procedure was performed without complication by Dr. Brian Forsythe at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush to address a chronic issue.
The Brazilian was sidelined for eight of the club's final 12 regular season matches, before putting in a 70-minute shift in the Fire's Knockout Round match in the Audi 2017 MLS Cup playoffs on Oct. 25.
Juninho was acquired by the Fire on loan from Mexico's Club Tijuana on Dec. 23 of 2016, and appeared in 21 games with 17 starts for the Men In Red this season. The 28-year-old scored once and assisted twice while earning a share of the captaincy in 2017.
He is expected to be cleared for the start of training camp in January.
