The Fire nearly got on the board in the 14th minute when rookie midfielder Daniel Johnson earned a free kick just outside the Saint Louis 18-yard-box, but Juninho’s ensuing restart clanged off the post.

Luis Solignac opened scoring in the 27th minute. Brandon Vincent received the ball on the left flank and whipped in a cross to Solignac, finding the Argentine striker 12 yards out. With his back towards goal, Solignac hit a one-time, right-footed backheel past an outstretched Adam Grinwis for the lone goal of the game.

The hosts’ best chance for an equalizer came in the 79th minute when Max Alvarez broke free and whipped his header on goal but Matt Lampson quickly got to his left and safely parried it away.

Saint Louis were reduced to 10 men in the 81st minute when Dragan Stojkov was shown his second yellow card of the game.

With the win, the Fire move to 42-14-5 all-time in Open Cup play.
