Djordje Mihailovic scores in U.S. U-19 friendly vs. Miami FC

Recently called into U.S. U-19 National Team training camp by head coach Brad Friedel, Chicago Fire Homegrown midfielder Djordje Mihailovic notched an impressive free kick goal Thursday in a friendly against NASL side Miami FC. 


The Chicago Fire Academy and PDL product leveled the match at one with his second-half strike, although Miami FC would go on to win, 2-1, in its inaugural preseason outing. The game was played at St. Thomas University in Miami.

Mihailovic -- who officially inked his Homegrown contract on January 27 -- had previously scored while representing for the U.S. U-19s in overseas competitions, first at the COTIF in Spain and again at the Stevan-Vilotic Cele Tournament in Serbia last September. He also was in the squad earlier this week (Feb. 5) when the U.S. defeated a U-20 El Salvador side, 2-1.


With camp concluding on Friday, Mihailovic will look forward to rejoining Chicago Fire camp for the second leg of its Florida-based training on Monday, Feb. 13. After a friendly vs. the Montreal Impact on Wednesday, Mihailovic and the Fire will have a chance to see the same Miami FC side in a preseason fixture on Sunday, Feb. 19 (5:30 p.m. CT).
