Chicago Fire Draw 2-2 with Columbus Crew SC

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (Oct. 13, 2016) – The Chicago Fire rallied from an initial 1-0 deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Columbus Crew SC on Thursday at Toyota Park.


The Fire tallied twice in a 4-minute span early in the second half to take a 2-1 advantage with nearly a half-hour to play. An own goal from the Crew started the comeback and Michael de Leeuw tacked on the go-ahead tally soon after. However, Chicago would have to settle for a draw after Adam Jahn completed his brace with a world-class goal in the 80th minute.

Jahn opened his account in the 13th minute. Justin Meram sent a through-ball into space, springing Jahn with no defenders between him and the frame. Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson got a piece of the ensuing shot, but the ball still found the net.


David Arshakyan entered the game at halftime and made a difference 8 minutes later. Arturo Alvarez sent a cross toward the middle of the box and found Arshakyan on the run. The Armenian striker took a touch, and then he watched the ball glance off of Crew defender Michael Parkhurst and into the net.


Four minutes later, Alvarez creating again. Alvarez sprinted past his mark with the ball and clipped a cross to de Leeuw in front of the goal. The Dutch striker one-touched his shot from close range for his fifth goal of the season.

Jahn capped the scoring with a polished finish in the 80th minute. The forward took a cross from Corey Ashe, flipping the ball in the air before turning and volleying his shot past the outstretched arms of Johnson.
The Fire close their 2016 home slate against the New England Revolution on Sunday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is 2 p.m. CT on CSN Chicago and 97.5 FM Poder.
