CHICAGO (August 3, 2016) – The Chicago Fire on Wednesday acquired General and Targeted Allocation Money, the Philadelphia Union’s natural first round selection in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, the Discovery Priority on a player* and the second spot in the MLS Allocation Ranking Order from the Union in exchange for the top spot in the MLS Allocation Ranking Order.
With the first spot, the Union signed midfielder Alejandro Bedoya as the Fire move back up to the No. 1 spot in the Allocation Ranking Order.
“We’ve often spoken of building a team that will be competitive over time,” said Fire general manager Nelson Rodríguez. “This move is directly tied to other deals today and transactions to be completed in the coming months that will allow us to execute our plan and realize our on-field goals."
The Men in Red return to action when they hit the road to take on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 9 p.m. CT (CSN/97.5 FM Poder).
