Chicago Fire Drop 2-0 Road Result Against New England Revolution

FOXBOROUGH, Mass.(May 14, 2016) – Playing their second road game of the week after a cross-country journey from Vancouver, the Chicago Fire fell 2-0 Saturday night against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.


Recent Fire signing Khaly Thiam made his debut for the Men in Red, starting and playing 64 minutes before subbing off for Razvan Cocis. Additionally, Fire midfielder David Accam played his first match since March 11 after missing the last two months with a sprained knee.

Despite the reinforcements, the Fire ultimately came up short. New England struck first on a set piece in the 22nd minute. Kelyn Rowe took a short corner from Lee Nguyen and then played a pass on the ground to Scott Caldwell. Nguyen sprinted into the box and received a pass back from Caldwell before curling a shot into the upper corner.


Femi Hollinger-Hanzen capped the scoring with a close-range header into an open net in the 84th minute. Juan Agudelo lifted a pass to Hollinger-Janzen with Fire goalkeeper Matt Lampson off his line and the former Indiana Hoosier forward capitalized for his first career MLS goal.


The Men in Red wrap up their three-game road trip on Wednesday, May 18 against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. CT on CSN Chicago Plus and 97.5 FM Poder.
