STADIUM SECURITY SCREENING ADVISORY


In conjunction with the recently announced elevated security standards across all 20 Major League Soccer venues, the Chicago Fire will introduce random security screening of fans entering Toyota Park beginning on Saturday, April 30 when the Fire host D.C. United (4 p.m. CT, CSN Chicago).


The random screenings will be conducted with hand-held metal detectors. All fans are advised to allow extra time for stadium entry in an effort to alleviate lines at stadium gates and minimize inconveniences.

    NFL Draft (Downtown Chicago)


    • Balbo from Columbus to Lake Shore Drive is currently closed to traffic. Westbound Balbo will remain closed until Friday, May 6, night; however, eastbound Balbo will reopen for Monday, April 25 morning rush and then will be closed again on Tuesday, May 3 through Friday, May 6 for the load-out of the event.


    • Michigan Avenue from Van Buren to Congress will be closed at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, until 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 20. Traffic will be rerouted through the Congress Circle during the closure. Michigan Avenue from Jackson to Balbo will temporarily close on Thursday, April 28 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and then again on Friday, April 29 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to accommodate the red carpet introduction featuring NFL legends and top college prospects.


    • Columbus from Jackson to Balbo will be closed at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, until 8:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22 for set-up of Draft Town Fan Festival. Columbus will close again at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22 until Monday, May 2 for the event and load-out.


    • Congress from Michigan to Columbus Drive (and sidewalks) and the Congress Circle will be closed Friday, April 22 night and will reopen on Monday, May 2. Congress Parkway from Wabash to Michigan Avenue will close Thursday, April 28 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and also on Friday, April 29 from 3:00 p.m. and is anticipated to open later that evening.


    I-55 and IL 171


    The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that lane reductions and ramp closures are necessary for a bridge reconstruction project along Illinois 171 and the Interstate 55 interchange beginning March 21. The project will reconstruct the bridges along northbound Illinois 171 from 47th Street to 55th Street as well as the interchange with Interstate 55.


    In order to complete the work, traffic on Illinois 171 will be reduced to one lane in each direction, beginning March 24. Traffic will shift onto the newly constructed southbound lanes on Illinois 171. There will be occasional, overnight closures on Interstate 55 near Illinois 171 and permanent shoulder closures on I-55 at IL 171.


    As of March 28, all ramps on northbound IL 171 are closed to traffic in order to reconstruct the interchange. Detours will be posted for the following permanent ramp closures:
