CHICAGO (Jan. 7, 2015) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club, in conjunction with Major League Soccer, unveiled the 2015 regular season schedule on Wednesday. The Fire are slated to appear in a total of 13 nationally televised broadcasts throughout its 18th season of MLS play. The Men in Red kick off the 2015 MLS campaign when they visit defending MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. on Friday, March 6 at 9 p.m. CT (UniMas). The Fire host Opening Day at Toyota Park when they welcome Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, March 14 at 5 p.m. CT. The Fire’s full schedule can be found at www.chicago-fire.com/schedule.
The Fire again take part in the 10-team Eastern Conference, playing an unbalanced 34-match schedule. The breakdown of opponents is as follows:
- The Men in Red appear on national broadcast partners FOX (three games), ESPN2 (three games), Univision Deportes (four games) and UniMas (three games). The club will release its 2015 local television schedule at a later date.
- The Men in Red will play a total of 24 matches against other Eastern Conference clubs and a total of ten matches against Western Conference clubs.
- The Fire face six Eastern Conference opponents a total of three times, hosting the New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls and Orlando City SC twice at Toyota Park. In turn, the team will visit Columbus Crew SC, D.C. United and the Montreal Impact twice in 2015.
- The Fire will take on fellow Eastern Conference sides New York City FC, Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC twice each (home and away).
- The Fire face each Western Conference opponent once over the course of the season, hosting the Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, Real Salt Lake, Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Toyota Park, and hitting the road against the Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy, Portland Timbers, San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City.
Other Schedule Highlights:
- The Fire open their 18th season on the road against the LA Galaxy. This is the third consecutive season the Men in Red begin the season at the StubHub Center after opening against the Galaxy in 2013 and Chivas USA in 2014.
- MLS’ 15th soccer-specific stadium opens on Sunday, March 22 when the Fire help the San Jose Earthquake inaugurate their new home, Avaya Stadium.
- On Friday, April 24, the Fire host expansion side New York City FC at Toyota Park for the first meeting in history between the two sides. Saturday, June 6 marks the first match between the Fire and Orlando City SC, which also takes place at Toyota Park.
- The Men in Red face unique, back-to-back matches against long-time foes Columbus Crew SC when they host the Crew on Wednesday, July 15 before facing a quick rematch at Crew Stadium on Sunday, July 19.
- The Fire will celebrate a variety of special causes and initiatives throughout the season, including Chicago Heritage Night, Pride Night, First Responders Appreciation Night, Breast Cancer Awareness Night and Fan Appreciation Night.
