Chicago Fire supports City Year as new corps members pledge year-long commitment to service

Schurz City Year 1 DL

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club was honored to extend its support to community partner City Year on Friday, October 10 as a new batch of corps members gathered at Carl Schurz High School to pledge their year-long commitment to service. Members of the Chicago Fire front office were present to witness City Year’s Opening Day ceremony, which marks the symbolic beginning to a new year of helping students change their educational outcomes and ultimately, impact the lives of those students and their communities.

City Year is an education-focused, nonprofit organization that combats the nation’s dropout epidemic by uniting young leaders of all backgrounds for a full year of full-time service in high-need schools. To assist with these efforts, the Fire has sponsored a group of City Year corps members who will work to keep students in school and on track to graduation by serving as tutors, mentors, and role models at Schurz High School. The Fire is proud to team up with City Year for the second consecutive year to #makebetterhappen.
