INJURY UPDATE: Magee, Segares, Palmer all cleared for Wednesday vs. Toronto FC

Mike Magee

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The Chicago Fire return to MLS regular season play on Wednesday vs. Toronto FC (7:00pm CT on My50) with a mostly clean bill of health.

Only midfielders Patrick Nyarko (knee sprain) and Benji Joya (quad tightness) appeared on the team’s Athletico Injury Report on Monday.

Nyarko has been sidelined with the knee injury since last appearing in the team’s 2-1 win over Sporting KC on May 18. During that time, the Ghanaian winger also underwent surgery to have bone spurs removed from his ankle.

Joya’s injury is more recent, with Fire head coach Frank Yallop saying he aggravated his thigh in the Reserve team’s 2-2 draw with the Wilmington Hammerheads on Saturday, June 21.

Meanwhile, Yallop would also be relieved as forward Mike Magee returned to training Monday after suffering an ankle knock in last week’s 4-2 extra time U.S. Open Cup victory over Columbus.

“I feel good,” Magee told Chicago-Fire.com following Monday’s session. “I kept getting wacked by Tyson Wahl throughout that game and early on he got me pretty good. It was swelling up on me but all of that’s gone now and I’m ready to go for Wednesday.”

Meanwhile, the Fire will also be boosted with the returns of outside backs Lovel Palmer and Gonzalo Segares.

Palmer suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s 3-2 defeat to Seattle prior to the World Cup break while Segares underwent a surgery similar to Nyarko’s to remove bone spurs from his ankle on June 10.
