The Opponent: Where does Real Salt Lakes's late collapse leave them heading into Saturday's match?

Through the 80th minute of Saturday night’s 2-2 draw between this week’s opponents Real Salt Lake and the Vancouver Whitecaps looked to be an easy affair for the team from the Wasatch Front.

Joao Plata and Alvaro Saborio had given the home side a 2-0 lead nine minutes into the match and Saborio was inches away from a brace when his flicked on header hit the cross bar, came down on the line and hit the post before being cleared away.

RSL looked to be cruising to victory until a pair of sloppy goalkeeping errors from Nick Rimando in the final moments of the match doomed the team to a 2-2 draw.

The likely number three ‘keeper for the U.S. this summer in Brazil, Rimando spilled Darren Mattocks’ knuckling shot in the 86th minute leaving Nicolas Mezquida the easy clean up goal before a scorching 40 yard effort from Sebastian Fernandez pulled things level in the 94th minute.

The result keeps Real Salt Lake as the only unbeaten MLS team left this season (3-0-5) but the two dropped points push the side down to third in the Western Conference, two points back of Seattle and FC Dallas.
