CHICAGO (March 26, 2014) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Wednesday that Trevor James has been appointed Head of Scouting for the club.

“Adding Trevor to lead the Fire’s scouting department is a great move for the future our club,” said Chicago Fire Head Coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop. “I have known Trevor for years and he has the experience plus a keen eye for talent.  I’m confident that he will take the Fire’s scouting efforts in a beneficial new direction.”

James, who will report to Yallop, most recently served as assistant coach for the Portland Timbers during their inaugural 2011 MLS season.

Prior to his position with the Timbers, James joined the LA Galaxy in 2006 when he was appointed assistant coach by then-head coach Frank Yallop. In 2007, with the creation of the Galaxy Academy, James also assumed the role of Director of Player Development.

During James’ tenure as the Galaxy’s Director of Player Development, the Galaxy Academy won two USL Super-20 League division titles, reached the 2010 Super-20 National Championship and qualified for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs in both the U16 and U18 age groups.

“In addition to scouting for the first team, Trevor will also be able to monitor youth and college tournaments across the country and work closely with Larry Sunderland to help us on the Academy front,” added Yallop.

The Norwich, England, native played professional soccer internationally in England, Norway and the United States. In 1985, James retired from professional soccer and moved to the coaching side. James served as youth academy coach at Ipswich Town, reserve team manager at Colchester United and first team coach and chief scout at Cambridge United in England’s League One prior to joining MLS.

James holds A coaching licenses from both UEFA and the U.S. Soccer Federation. Upcoming scouting trips for James include England, Spain and France for the 2014 Toulon Tournament.
