Bridgeview, Ill.(Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013) – The Chicago Fire defeated Toronto FC 4-2 in MLS Reserve League action at the Toyota Park Practice Field Sunday morning. Chris Rolfe and Corben Bone led the Fire to a quick 2-0 lead before Toronto was able to equalize courtesy of goals from Manny Aparicio and Emery Welshman, but Maicon Santos and Joel Lindpere scored two unanswered goals as the Fire emerged victorious.

The Men in Red opened scoring in the 14th minute when a Toronto FC corner kick was cleared out by Lindpere. A quick counter attack found Santos breaking in on goal, forcing a one-handed diving save from Toronto ‘keeper Quillan Roberts but Rolfe pounced on the rebound and slotted the ball into the open net.

The Fire would double the lead just three minutes later when a Daniel Paladini backheel found Santos at the top of the 18-yard box. The Brazilian played a tidy pass square to Bone and the Plano, Texas native took a touch to settle and drove a low shot past Roberts to put the Fire up 2-0.

Toronto pulled one back in the 31st minute when Aparicio drove in a bouncing shot from the top of the 18 at Fire ‘keeper Alec Kann, who wasn’t able to corral the ball as the visitors cut the lead in half.

Toronto drew even in the 50th minute when Welshman received the ball on the left side of Kann’s goal, and from a sharp angle, sent his low, driven shot past Kann for the equalizer.

In the 55th minute, the Fire earned a free kick 30 yards from goal. Paladini quickly restarted the ball to Bone, who racing in towards goal, played Santos at the top of the box. With one touch, the Brazilian striker drove his shot past Roberts for the eventual game winner.

The Men in Red would put the match away in the 68th minute. Victor Pineda dribbled in to the end line and found Lindpere just inside the six yard box, and the Estonian international coolly hit his one-time shot on goal for the 4-2 lead.

Pineda would prove dangerous again in the 76th minute when he beat his defenders and rounded Roberts but his shot was cleared off the line at the last second by a sliding Gale Agbossoumonde.
