Chicago Fire Defeat Toronto FC 1-0


Bridgeview, Ill. (Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013) – The Chicago Fire (14-12-7, 49 points) defeated Toronto FC (5-17-11, 26 points) 1-0 Saturday evening at Toyota Park. Mike Magee converted a penalty kick in the 64th minute to lead the Men in Red to victory.
With the result the Fire moved to fourth place in the Eastern Conference. The Men in Red next head to the Big Apple to take on the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ at 4:00 p.m. CT (My50/TWCSC Wisconsin/La Ley 107.9) for the regular season finale.

-       With his appearance, Chris Rolfe moved past Justin Mapp and into seventh on the club’s all-time MLS Regular Season appearance list with 175.
-       Prior to the match the Fire announced that forward Mike Magee was named the club’s Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot winner, and goalkeeper Sean Johnson was named the club’s Defender of the Year as voted on by local media.
-       Magee’s penalty kick in the 64th minute was his 20th goal of the season. Magee now sits tied with Montreal Impact forward Marco Di Vaio atop the tightly-contested MLS Golden Boot race.
-       Saturday was Fire defender Jalil Anibaba’s 25th birthday. Anibaba and fellow defender Austin Berry are the only two Fire players to play every minute this season.
-       Fire vice captain Jeff Larentowicz will miss the Fire’s match against the New York Red Bulls due to yellow card accumulation.
-       The Fire wore blue kits with pink name plates, numbers and a special pink MLS W.O.R.K.S. ribbon patch on their jerseys in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness night. These commemorative jerseys were auctioned off during the match and raised over $13,000 to benefit the Chicago Fire Foundation.
