Chicago Fire file appeal of Jeff Larentowicz's red card at Montreal

Jeff Larentowicz

As many expected, the Chicago Fire today filed an appeal on Jeff Larentowicz's red card in the team's 2-0 defeat on Saturday at Montreal.
Larentowicz was sent off in the 63rd minute after appearing to make contact with the back of Andrea Pisanu's heel just outside of the box.
Referee Fotis Bazakos took little time to give the veteran MLS midfielder his marching orders and originally pointed to the spot for a penalty kick before later confering with his linesman and placing the free kick outside the penalty area.
The appeal now goes to an Independent Review Panel consisting of one representative each from the U.S. Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association and the Professional Referees Organization (PRO).
Chicago-Fire.com has been told the appeal process should take two to three days.
Earlier this season season Chivas USA successfully appealed the ejection of defender Joaquin Velasquez after an odd series of events in a match vs. the LA Galaxy back in March.
The full appeal process can be found via the MLS Pressbox site.
