Camp Update: Quincy Amarikwa arrives in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- On the final day of preseason training, former San Jose, Colorado and potentially Toronto FC attacker Quincy Amarikwa arrived in camp Friday morning and took part in his first session with the team.
Amarikwa previously appeared as a guest player and set up the game-winning penalty kick in 28 minutes of work during the team’s 1-0 victory over San Jose on February 9.

Since that appearance, Fire head coach Frank Klopas said the team was trying to work out a deal to acquire the UC-Davis product’s rights from Toronto FC and his arrival into Charleston seems to indicate one is in the offing.

Tony Walls Waived
The club announced earlier Friday that the team has waived defender Tony Walls.
The former Fire PDL product has not been in camp with the side this preseason with the move to waive the player held up in a delay with his exit physical.
The transaction brings the current roster to 24 players but with the potential acquisition of Amarikwa combined with what looks like the signings of both SuperDraft selection Yazid Atouba and trialing goalkeeper Alec Kann, the team looks to be up to 27 players soon.
Trialing defenders Pascal Chimbonda and Leo Lelis, as well as forward Colin Rolfe remain the other unsigned players in Fire camp.
Hardware in Sight
Frank Klopas’ side has a chance to secure a trophy Saturday as the team takes on Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the finale of the 2013 Carolina Challenge Cup (Live Stream at 4pm CT on Chicago-Fire.com).

Having won their previous two matches in the tournament, the Fire need just a draw vs. Vancouver to clinch the title Saturday afternoon.
SCENARIOS: Challenge Cup Conundrum

Heavy rains have started in the South Carolina low-country and more rain, including thunderstorms are expected Saturday.
Fire fans will remember that the final games of the tournament last year were cancelled after it rained all day in Charleston.
Should the final matchday be called off, the Fire will still secure the cup.
