PRESEASON GAME NOTES: Chivas USA vs. Chicago Fire

Wells Thompson

Time for an early-morning drive down to Carson. Before we take off, here are some things you should know about today’s match.
- In order to further evaluate the players in camp, Tuesday’s game will have a 45 minute period followed by two 30-minute periods.
- Follow the match with our live audio feed at www.chicago-fire.com/live or via @ChiFireMatch on Twitter beginning at 1:30pm CT.
- On Monday’s weekly conference call, Frank Klopas indicated that new camp arrivals Arne Friedrich and Dilly Duka as well as Patrick Nyarko, who only did conditioning work during Phase One in Ave Maria would not be available for selection. All three are expected to suit up for Saturday’s game vs. San Jose.
- With the departure of Dominic Oduro on Monday, Klopas also mentioned that the team might utilize Brazilian attacker Alex as a second striker.
- Defender Hunter Jumper and forward Maicon Santos remain sidelined after injuries picked up in Florida.
- Expect to see goalkeeper Paolo Tornaghi make his first appearance of preseason after the team let him take longer to recover from his surgically repaired pinky finger as they evaluated trialing goalkeepers while in Ave Maria.
- Midfielder Corben Bone returned from his 10-day training stint with Atletico Madrid late Sunday night, trained for the first time with the team on Monday and is ready to go for Tuesday’s friendly.
- The Fire are 1-1-0 so far in preseason, defeating Florida Gulf Coast 2-0 (Jan. 27) and falling 2-1 to the Columbus Crew (Jan. 30).
- Chivas USA are 2-0-0 defeating UC-Irvine 4-1 (Jan. 26) and Santa Clarita Storm 4-1 (Jan. 30).
