After a busy December, Johnson excited to be back with National Team

Sean Johnson - USMNT

As he’s become accustomed to, Sean Johnson’s offseason got a bit shorter Sunday as the Fire goalkeeper was once again chosen for the U.S. Men’s National Team’s early-year camp.

Johnson will begin training at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., Monday, leading up to the side’s 2013 friendly opener on January 29 vs. Canada in Houston.
“I’m always excited to get in with the U.S. team,” Johnson told Chicago-Fire.com Sunday. “This camp is an opportunity for guys to work towards earning a spot on qualifying rosters and I’m looking forward to the challenge once again.”
Though he didn’t appear in the games, national team boss Juergen Klinsmann did call Johnson in for a number of CONCACAF semifinal round World Cup qualifying matches as well as the team’s end-of-the year friendly at Russia in recent months.
Johnson hopes the same is the case for the 2013 Hexagonal round, which will see the top three sides qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. With the CONCACAF Gold Cup falling in the middle of the year, the opportunities for Johnson’s national team hopes could be boosted as well.
“I’m looking forward to the last round of qualifying,” he said. “Being involved in the team during the games and camps is definitely a goal of mine for this year. I want to put myself in a good position to be a part of that group.”
