Men in Red Go Pink

The club will raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club, the Chicago Fire Foundation and MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative, announced today the Fire’s efforts to aid in MLS’ breast cancer awareness campaign as part of Soccer Kicks Cancer, a three-month campaign focused on raising awareness and funds for cancer research and treatment and providing strength and hope in the fight against cancer affecting men, women and children. The club will raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer when the Men in Red take on the Columbus Crew at TOYOTA PARK on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. CT (CSN).
In an effort to raise funds for cancer awareness the Fire are offering a $30 ticket package which includes admission to the Fire – Crew match and a commemorative t-shirt, in addition the first 200 people to purchase by calling 1-888-MLS-FIRE (657-3473), or by heading to the club’s official website at Chicago-Fire.com will participate in a pregame, on-field activation of the Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Chicago Fire Foundation. The Fire will don white kits with pink name plates, numbers and Fire wordmark, special pink MLS W.O.R.K.S. ribbon patch, pink adidas sweat bands, pink shoelaces and goalkeeper Sean Johnson will use pink gloves to further support the cause.
In collaboration with MLS partners adidas and Gatorade, matches will be played with a commemorative pink adidas Jabulani match ball and players will use pink sideline towels provided by Gatorade. MLS corporate and broadcast partners will also support the campaign with field board recognition during select matches.
The Fire will hold a Commemorative Jersey Auction on the North East Concourse where the jerseys will be auctioned off up until halftime of the Fire – Crew match. Each supporter that wins the bid will not only receive the player’s jersey, but will get the opportunity to meet that player postgame in a private meet and greet session. Game-worn autographed jerseys and the special-edition pink match balls will be available for auction at www.MLSsoccer.com/works as part of the League’s effort to raise funds for breast cancer research and treatment.
Limited edition Breast Cancer Awareness adidas products including scarves, sweat bands, hats, t-shirts and replica balls will be available for purchase at the Chicago Fire Fan Shop located at Gate D of Toyota Park, MLSGear.com and www.shopchicagofire.com. A portion of the proceeds from these sales and proceeds from the online auction will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.
