Goal Of The Year Final

GOTY Final

Day 14 of the Goal of the Year Tournament was the closest in the competition’s two year history, going late into the night and likening itself among Kennedy/Nixon in 1960 and Bush/Gore in 2000…No controversy here though, a single vote pushed Dominic Oduro’s U.S. Open Cup semifinal winner August 30 vs. Richmond past the Cinderella and sentimental favorite of the tournament, Diego Chaves’ stoppage time winner in the Capital Comeback, October 15 at DC United.

2011 FIRE GOTY FINAL - Which goal was better?

With the result, today’s final matchup features two of the goals that pushed the club on its run to an MLS-record sixth Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final, as Oduro’s effort goes up against Jalil Anibaba’s “Improbable, Impossible” bomb in a tournament play-in game, March 30 vs. Colorado.

If there was ever any doubt what the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup means to this club’s supporters, there shouldn’t be anymore…

Remember 2010…

Just the second goal of Logan Pause’s career on May 8, 2010 (a 4-1 loss to Toronto) narrowly beat our Marco Pappa’s swerving first-timer on April 10, 2010 (a 2-1 loss to San Jose), which coincidentally won Major League Soccer’s Goal of the Year.

TODAY’S MATCHUP:

So who will it be? Will rookie defender Jalil Anibaba become the second non-forward to win the Goal of the Year or will Dominic Oduro add to his Golden Boot, Team MVP and Supporters Player of the Year Award in a 2011?

Vote to the right and make your case below by Friday at 11:59pm CT. We’ll announce the winner Saturday morning!
