Kick Off: RedSox Buy Reds

Liverpool will hope that news of an ownership change will help them get out of their recent funk

Liverpool FC fans wake up this morning to news that their club has been sold to another American group, New England Sports Ventures, owners of the Boston Red Sox.

Here is the early reaction from Liverpool fans to the sale.

NESV will look to help manager Roy Hodgson with the club’s quest of winning trophies again. Titles are what make soccer clubs stand out, according to Seattle Sounders manager Sigi Schmid, who hoisted his second consecutive US Open Cup on Tuesday night at Qwest Field.

Schmid, who stayed dry in the celebration, was drenched in champagne by his players during the post-game press conference.

The Crew believe they deserved better and the final result at Qwest Field leaves them “angry.”

Now Columbus will get back to the pursuit of the Eastern Conference’s first-place team, the New York Red Bulls. Next up for them is a Friday league match in Chicago.

NYRB Sporting Director Erik Soler made some revealing comments on Tuesday, saying that a potential return ofJuan Pablo Angel will be discussed in the offseason. Also, the club has disclosed the name of two international targets.

Real Salt Lake are chasing in the Western Conference with the LA Galaxy in their sights. RSL captain Kyle Beckerman says that he was able to see right through the Galaxy’s early season undefeated run and he knew they would eventually struggle.

On the other end of the table, last-place DC United have brought in a Cameroonian player for a week-long trial and meanwhile they look to overcome an emergency as far as player availability is concerned for this weekend.

Some teams will be in a bind given the FIFA international fixture date and the fact that Jamaica has called up six MLS players. The San Jose Earthquakes, seeking to book their place in the MLS postseason, will be shorthanded.

KC Wizards forward Kei Kamara will likely not be getting called up any time soon by his country after being suspended by Sierra Leone for “indiscipline.”

One of the 2011 expansion clubs, the Vancouver Whitecaps, is choosing to do things differently, recruiting what they believe to be two of the top three prospects in Canadian soccer to their residency.

In the US, the competition for talent is fierce and it’s not just because of the number of MLS teams in the country.Soccer America spoke to one Mexican club official who outlined the specific ways they are seeking to capture US talent.

For the first time we hear from new San Jose Earthquakes president David Kaval, who speaks in detail about his duties and responsibilities.

In Chicago they have also made a new hire with a former MLS manager being hired as Director of Player Personnel.

In a record-breaking season for FC Dallas, someone has taken the time to list all the club’s new marks and it makes for a long posting.

One writer also delved into stats, comparing the Philadelphia Union’s record as an expansion club to other MLS teams in their first year of league play.

In other international soccer news, Tim Leiweke, head of LA Galaxy owners AEG, says that “it would be a travesty” if England did not land the 2018 World Cup.

Leiweke also says that AEG has been approached about taking over 10 English Premier League teams over recent years.

The US national team has gone international with the first camp involving Jermaine Jones, who needs right back Steve Cherundolo to translate in order to speak with media.

Lastly, San Antonio seems to have finally landed a soccer team after flirting with MLS years ago.
