BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – A couple of notes regarding potential player acquisitions by the Chicago Fire:
A third DP?
The Fire might not be done shopping for designated players. Fire technical director Frank Klopas indicated on Wednesday that Chicago – who already have two DPs on the books – are looking for a third.
“We made some very good moves that we’ve improved the team with,” Klopas said. “But the window’s still open and we’re still looking. We have a list of guys that we’ve identified and some of the guys maybe they’re contracts don’t finish up now they might finish up next year. But if it happens now or next year, it’s definitely a situation we're looking into.”
Ristic back in camp
Serbian midfielder Bratislav Ristic, who impressed during a two week trial with Chicago in June/July, began his second training stint with the club on Wednesday.
“He’s here training,” Klopas told MLSsoccer.com on Wednesday. “We had seen him earlier and were just bringing him in. We’re always trying to improve our team by bringing players that can make us better so he’s here again.”
Klopas gave no indication as to whether or not the Fire has any plans to offer the 30-year-old Ristic a contract. The Fire would have to release a player to free up a roster spot for the Serb.
Academy player trains with first team
Fire Academy and US U-18 international player Victor Pineda trained with the Fire first team on Thursday morning. Whether he’s in the senior team’s plans remains to be seen, but Klopas did tell MLSsoccer.com last month that he feels there are players in Chicago’s academy worthy of the Fire’s two “homegrown” roster slots.
