Nery at Noon

Nery Castillo will be expected to boost the Fire's chances, but Chicago know it's not a one-man job.

CHICAGO, IL â€“ The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced today that Chicago Fire Designated Player Nery Castillo will be formally introduced as a member of the Fire at a press conference at TOYOTA PARK on Thursday, July 29 at noon CT. The Mexican international will officially be unveiled as the newest member of the Men in Red with Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas, Head Coach Carlos de los Cobos and Andell Sports Group Managing Director Javier Leon on hand to discuss the Fire’s newest addition and present the 26-year-old forward with his newly printed Fire jersey.


Media interested in acquiring video footage of Castillo’s first open training with the Fire are encouraged to attend the Men in Red’s practice from 10:15 – 10:45 AM CT, as the Fire ready for their match against the LA Galaxy on Sunday, August 1 at 6:30 PM CT at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA (FSC/FSE).
Castillo comes to the Fire after spending eight seasons with FC Olympiakos where he tallied 30 goals in 105 appearances. Following his departure from the Greek side, Castillo spent time with Ukrainian clubs Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, in addition to English Premier League club Manchester City.
A native from San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Castillo has represented the Mexico Men’s national team 21 times since 2007, scoring six goals.
