Blanco Penalty

Former Fire midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco opened his 2010 FIFA World Cup account by burying a penalty kick in the 79th minute of Mexico's 2-0 win over France in Polokwane.

The two teams came attacking each other early on but the second part of the first half was forgettable, especially from a French perspective. Javier Aguirre's men went into the locker room spurred by a scoreless first half, looking to build off of their early chances.

His halftime team talk looked successful from the first whistle, with Mexico holding possession and stretching the French back line throughout the interval.
