Academy Teams Take Nine of 12 Points in Minnesota Road Trip

Chicago Fire Academy

The Chicago Fire U-18 and U-16 Academy teams traveled to Minnesota this weekend to take on the Minnesota Thunder and Shattuck-Saint Mary's in USSDA play.

An Edson Murguia penalty kick led the U-18s to a 1-0 win over the Minnesota Thunder on Saturday, but the Fire were on the reverse end of a 1-0 decision on Sunday in a loss to Shattuck-Saint Mary's. The Fire's 1.72 points per game (9-5-4, 31 points) have them in fifth place in the Mid-America Division with six matches remaining in the 2015-16 regular season.

At the U-16 level, the Fire won their first match of the weekend, 3-1, over the Minnesota Thunder on Saturday, courtesy of a Brayden Callipari goal and Andrew Akindele brace. Akindele then tallied his third goal of the weekend in the U-16s 1-0 win over Shattuck-Saint Mary's on Sunday as the Fire kept claim of third place in the Mid-America Division (12-5-2, 2.0 ppg).

The Academy sides return home to host the Indiana Fire Academy on Saturday, May 14. The U-18s kick off the tripleheader at 1 p.m., followed by the U-16s at 3:30 p.m. and the U-14s at 5:30 p.m. All games are held at the Toyota Park Turf Field and are free and open to the public.
