Sean Johnson has landed on the MLS Team of the Week announced Monday (Aug. 17) on the heels of his stellar eight-save performance in the Chicago Fire’s 3-3 draw Sunday at Philadelphia.
Johnson was especially magnificent in the final 20 minutes of the match, repeatedly denying the Union’s best efforts in the open field and on set-piece headers on frame. In the 87th minute, Johnson recorded two saves in rapid succession -- denying a Brian Carroll blast from the top of the area and Sebastien Le Toux on a point-blank rebound attempt -- in a sequence that earned him the No. 3 spot on the “SportsCenter” Top 10 plays of the day.
Forward Kennedy Igboananike was named to the team as a reserve after tallying an assist and two goals in the match, including the stoppage-time equalizer that secured a point for the Men In Red.
