Keeping The Fire Burning: Rededicating the Chicago Fire Soccer Club Wall of Honor

Wall of Honor

There’s a newly installed display in Toyota Park’s northwest concourse, but the sentiments it represents are as old as the Chicago Fire Soccer Club itself.
Prior to Chicago's July 25 match vs. New England, club officials and supporters gathered for a rededication of the Chicago Fire Soccer Club Wall of Honor, a commemorative space which since 2008 has paid tribute to the passionate fans who have helped build the traditions of the Chicago Fire.
“This memorial is as moving today as it was seven years ago when it was created,” said Chicago Fire Owner and Chairman Andrew Hauptman. “It’s fitting to be honoring your loved ones not only because they loved you and you loved them, but because they loved the Fire and understood what it means to share and create memories together. That may sound simple, but is very powerful and deeply meaningful.
“So this is particularly meaningful to me, as it’s a reflection not only of our collective love for our club, but for each other, and for the chance to share in that together, which is something that’s really unique and, in my opinion, deserves honoring.”
At present, the Wall of Honor honors four individuals who embodied the pillars upon which the club was established: Dan Parry (1973-2006), Brandon Kitchens (1987-2007), Euan McLean (2000-09), and Al Hack (1951-2010).
“My dad obviously brought soccer into my life and without him I wouldn’t be here,” said Nicole Hack, daughter of the late Al Hack and communications director for Section 8 Chicago. “Dan and Brandon were really good friends of mine and taught me how to be a Chicago Fire supporter with all my heart. I wasn’t able to meet Euan but I know the type of person my dad was, and I know he’s up there watching soccer with [Euan].”
“The rededication of the Wall of Honor allows us to pay tribute to the fans and to their families,” added Chicago Fire Vice President and longtime Fire standout Logan Pause. “It’s an opportunity to renew our commitment and to remember the growing passion that your loved ones carried with them.”
