It was a wild match between Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday night, and Chicago Fire defender Joevin Jones was involved in the decisive moment.

Having already punched their ticket to the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals, Trinidad and Tobago had an opportunity to finish atop Group C pending the outcome of Wednesday's match with El Tri. Trailing 2-0 after 51 minutes, the Soca Warriors staged a furious comeback that spanned just 16 minutes, seizing a 3-2 lead as Keron Cummings sandwiched a brace around a 58th-minute Kenwyne Jones tally.

That left plenty of time for Mexico to counter, and they did by scoring the next two to regain a 4-3 advantage late on in the match. T&T continued to press as the match and earned a 93rd-minute corner kick, where Jones was met by water bottles being tossed in his direction by the fans in Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium. Still, he stepped up and sent in a lethal service in the direction of Yohance Marshall, whose header found the back of the net.

Jones had a huge part in Trinidad’s group stage success. He started all three matches and provided his first international goal in the opening 3-1 win over Guatemala. Trinidad and Tobago now advance to face Panama on Sunday, June 19, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. CT.
