Fire Team With City Year Chicago for Day of Service

City Year full group

As the 2015 academic year enters its late stages, the Chicago Fire Soccer Club found time to drive home some important life lessons for students at Carl Schurz High School on the city’s Northwest side Monday (May 18).

The trip was the latest manifestation of the Fire's ongoing partnership with City Year Chicago, the cornerstone of which is a club-sponsored team of City Year corps members at Schurz High School. City Year, for which Chicago Fire owner Andrew Hauptman is a national trustee and a founding board chair of the Los Angeles chapter, places corps members in schools on a year-round basis to provide mentorship, socio-emotional support and one-on-one tutoring to at-risk students.
On Monday, the City Year corps members at Schurz received a helping hand from more than 50 members of the Chicago Fire front office, who engaged with six ninth-grade classes in a life-mapping exercise. The project is intended to help students learn about the steps required to become a professional, to allow them to reflect on the events that already have shaped their lives and to visualize how they can achieve their life goals.
