DISCIPLINARY: Segares, Joya, Larentowicz, Hurtado fined for incidents in Seattle match

NEW YORK (June 12, 2014) –The MLS Disciplinary Committee has determined that the Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders FC violated the League’s mass confrontation policy in the 7th minute and 42nd minute of their game on June 7. Chicago will receive an official warning for their first violation of the season. Seattle and head coach Sigi Schmid both will receive fines as this is the club’s second infraction this year. The Committee identified Chicago Fire midfielder Benji Joya and defender Gonzalo Segares as individuals who instigated/escalated the first incident and both will be fined an undisclosed amount (VIDEO).


The Committee has fined Chicago defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado an undisclosed amount for failing to leave the field in an orderly manner after receiving a red card in the 37th minute (VIDEO). The Committee has fined Seattle forward Obafemi Martins an undisclosed amount for failing to leave the field in an orderly manner after receiving a red card in the 42nd minute (VIDEO).


The Committee has fined Chicago Fire midfielder Jeff Larentowicz an undisclosed amount for hands to the face/head of Seattle midfielder Gonzalo Pineda in the 98+ minute of the game (VIDEO).
