Chicago Fire Kicks Cancer by Going Pink for Fire vs. Toronto FC Match October 19 at Toyota Park

– The Chicago Fire Soccer Club and University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System, in conjunction with MLS W.O.R.K.S., announced Thursday the Fire’s efforts to aid in Major League Soccer's breast cancer awareness campaign to raise funds for breast cancer research and treatment during the month of October. The club will raise awareness for the fight against cancer at the Chicago Fire vs. Toronto FC match Presented by University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System at Toyota Park on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. CT (My50/TWCSC Wisconsin/La Ley 107.9).

he Fire teamed up with University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System to create a video featuring Fire players Sean Johnson, Jeff Larentowicz, Chris Rolfe and Gonzalo Segares to remind women that early detection of breast cancer can save lives. In addition to the video, which will be shown in-stadium on Saturday and can be found

, the match will be played with a commemorative pink adidas Prime 2013 Official Match Ball, pink corner flags, pink goal nets and pink Soccer Kicks Cancer field boards.




The Fire’s starting eleven players will don MLS W.O.R.K.S. pink ribbon t-shirts during the procession and national anthem, and the Fire goalkeepers will receive pink uniforms and gloves. The Professional Referee Organization (PRO) match officials will join players in wearing pink ribbon patches on their jerseys in addition in addition to pink adidas sweat bands, and pink shoe laces. Gatorade has donated pink sideline towels to support the campaign and coaching staffs have been provided with pink MLS WORKS knit scarves.




The Fire will don blue kits with pink name plates, numbers and the special pink MLS W.O.R.K.S. ribbon patch on their jerseys. These commemorative jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the Chicago Fire Foundation during the match on Oct. 19th. Bidding is now open. Fans can text AUCTION to 52182 or
