BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013) – The Chicago Fire defeated the Montreal Impact 3-2 in MLS Reserve League action Sunday morning on the Toyota Park Practice Field. Daniele Paponi and Quincy Amarikwa bagged first half braces before Maicon Santos tapped in the 61st minute game-winning goal.
Paponi notched his first of the morning in just the fifth minute when Andrea Pisanu played a well-timed ball ahead to Paponi, who was toeing the line. The Impact forward raced in behind the Fire defense and went one-on-one with Kann. The Fire ‘keeper came off his line and made the initial block but Paponi followed the ball and tapped it into the open net to give the Impact the 1-0 lead.
Paponi doubled the Impact’s lead in the 17th minute when Zak Messoudi pounced on a loose ball 40 yards out and played the ball forward for Paponi. Paponi took a touch and calmly curled it around Kann for the 2-0 lead.
The Fire got on the board in the 22nd minute when Santos drove in a shot from distance, forcing a diving save from Impact ‘keeper Evan Bush. Paladini whipped in the corner kick that took a couple deflections and fell to Amarikwa. The Fire forward headed it in from the six yard box to cut the Impact’s lead in half.
Amarikwa notched his second of the morning just four minutes later. Shaun Francis earned a free kick when he was taken down 35 yards from goal. Daniel Paladini drove in the ensuing free kick and found Amarikwa, who rose above the defense and powered his header in for the equalizer.
The Men in Red took the lead in the 61st minute after a great individual effort by Bone. The Plano, Texas native dribbled into the box and played a square ball to Santos on the edge of the six yard box and the Brazilian striker calmly slotted it home for the game winner.
