Ten Man Chicago Fire Fall 3-0 at Columbus Crew Saturday Night

COLUMBUS, Ohio(Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013) – The Chicago Fire (11-12-6, 39 points) fell 3-0 at the Columbus Crew (11-14-5; 38 points) Saturday night at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Despite early dominance, it was the home side took the lead through Dominic Oduro in the 15th minute. The Fire were dealt an additional blow in the 29th minute as defender Bakary Soumare was shown a red card for a tackle on Crew forward Jairo Arrieta. Down a man, the visitors didn’t relent and nearly equalized through Juan Luis Anangono’s header off the cross bar in the 37th minute.
The Fire continued to look for an equalizer in the second half only to see a Federico Higuain penalty kick make it 2-0 in the 70th minute before Bernardo Anor made it 3-0 six minutes later. The visitors continued to attack and came close once again when Chris Rolfe’s deflected shot came off the post in the 79th but in the end couldn’t convert after playing down a man for 61 minutes.
The Fire reserves take on the Columbus Crew Sunday, Sept. 22 at 9:00am CT at Obetz Training Facility while the first team returns return to action when they welcome the Montreal Impact to Toyota Park on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7:30pm CT (My50/La Ley 107.9 FM).
