Chicago Fire Fall To Montreal Impact 2-0

MONTREAL, Quebec. (April 27, 2013) – The Chicago Fire (2-5-1; 7 points) dropped a 2-0 decision to the Montreal Impact (5-1-1; 16 points) at Stade Saputo Saturday afternoon. The Impact’s Andres Romero and Marco Di Vaio scored the only goals of the match as the Fire were forced to play a man down after a 63^rd minute red card to midfielder Jeff Larentowicz.
The two sides traded chances as they fought to establish dominance in the opening minutes of the match.
In the 11^th minute, Di Vaio swung in an Impact free kick from 30 yards out and found the head of Hassoun Camara. Camara out jumped his defender and snapped his header down, right into the Fire ‘keeper Sean Johnson’s arms.
The Fire began to press and in the 17^th minute, Sherjill MacDonald dribbled down the left flank and played a square ball to Joel Lindpere. The Estonian midfielder centered the ball to Jeff Larentowicz at the top of the arc, but his right-footed effort forced Perkins to make the save.
The Fire would get another their look on goal and in the 20^th minute, Lindpere’s corner kick was cleared by the Impact defense and fell to Daniel Paladini. The Fire midfielder took two touches to settle the ball and unleashed a right-footed blast from 30 yards out that forced Perkins to dive to his right and punch it out.
The hosts opened scoring in the 57^th minute when Andres Romero received the ball on the left flank from Andrea Pisanu, dribbled into the box and curled his right-footed shot into the side netting to give the Impact the 1-0 lead.https://editorial.chicago-fire.com/node/add/article
Minutes later the Fire would be forced to play a man down when Larentowicz was shown a red card after appearing to clip Pisanu’s heel as he chased the ball into the Fire’s penalty box.  
Di Vaio would put the game away in the 76^th minute. With his back to goal, the Italian striker took a touch to settle, and with a quick turn, buried his shot into the bottom corner of the goal just past a diving Johnson.

-This was the Fire’s first loss to the Montreal Impact. The Fire hold a 1-1-1 record against the Impact and a 0-1-1 record in matches played in Quebec.
-The Fire were without the services of defender Wells Thompson who was serving a one-game suspension that was given to him Thursday by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for his challenge on Columbus Crew midfielder Agustín Viana in the 12th minute of the match on Saturday, April 20
-With Thompson unavailable, Chicago Fire head coach Frank Klopas started the eighth different lineup in as many games.
-The Fire will be without the services of Philadelphia, Penn. native Jeff Larentowicz when they face the Union May 11. Larentowicz will be serving a one game suspension for the red card that he received April 27.

“I think we had a good start in the first 25 minutes and then we lost possession in the end of the game, we had an opportunity to keep the ball and the momentum kind of shifted. Then the red card changed everything. Also, because the Impact had two forwards instead of one, we changed our formation a little bit since it wasn’t expected. It was different for sure. The difficult part for us was when Marco and Paponi dropped in between our line. We have to communicate to pick them up and so I don’t think we did a good job with that. It’s always different when you are playing with ten guys.”

It was not good enough defending for me and I felt like I let the team down a little today. We have a little bit of a break now so we have to move on. We have to regroup and get back to work and be ready for May 11th.”

“It’s hard to think that the red card was fair if they ended up moving the kick outside of the box. But it’s the referee’s decision so we have to live with it and move on.”

“I thought it was a very unfortunate game, it started off well, and in the second half, when they scored, it went down from there. We changed our defense because of the Impact’s two forwards and obviously they are playing at home so they went in more aggressively in the second half, so they ended up putting two in the back of the net.”
