Fire forward Dominic Oduro scored against his former squad, but his team didn’t get the win it needed, tying 1-1 at Houston on Saturday afternoon.
Chicago Fire striker Dominic Oduro was unceremoniously traded from Houston to the Windy City this March for then-injured forward Calen Carr.
On Saturday night, Oduro heard a smattering of boos from the Dynamo crowd at Robertson Stadium. Not that the noise stopped him from scoring against his former club in a 1-1 draw.

“I don’t think it felt any different than from any of the other goals I’ve scored,” Oduro, who leads Chicago with 12 goals this year, told MLSsoccer.com after the match. “Just because it was in Houston, it doesn’t make any difference. I was hoping we could get three points but like I said, anybody could’ve scored that goal. I don’t want to compliment myself on it because I didn’t have to do too much work. I was just at the end of it.”
Oduro scored in the 43rd minute after running onto midfielder Baggio Husidic’s through ball in the box, sprinting by Houston defender Bobby Boswell, and slotting home. It was Oduro’s seventh in his last 10 matches.
However, not everything was perfect on Saturday for Oduro. He had to leave the match due to a slight ankle injury in the 51st minute. The Ghanaian, who was replaced by forward Patrick Nyarko, told MLSsoccer.com that the injury isn’t serious and that it shouldn’t keep him out of Tuesday’s all-important U.S. Open Cup final at Seattle.
“I had a bit of a sprained ankle earlier so it was just kind of like a little bruise,” Oduro said. “It wasn’t that bad but we have the Open Cup final and [interim coach Frank Klopas] wanted to take me off just to make sure I can play Tuesday.
“We knew it was going to be difficult, it was just a matter of trying to mix it up and I thought we did well getting a point on the road against a tough team to play against. We’ll take the point and see if we can get back home, get things together and play these next three games and hopefully there will be a shot at the playoffs.”
