The Chicago Fire welcome back CJ Brown when the Fire
Original returns to TOYOTA PARK for the Chicaog Fire – Real Salt Lake game on
Wednesday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. CT (My50).
The current assistant coach for Real Salt Lake, Brown will be honored by the Chicago Fire
Soccer Club in front of the Fire faithful in a postgame tribute to his
exceptional career in Chicago. Brown’s wife, Kim, and two girls, Canessa and
Kali will be in attendance. The 13-year
Fire defender played 32,519 mintes across all competitions for the Fire.
Toward the end of the 2010 season, Brown made it clear that
he wanted to move on to the coaching said of the game. Just a few short months
later, he became an assistant coach for Real Salt Lake. Since joining the coaching staff, Brown has helped guide the RSL defense to
allow the fewest goals in MLS (8).
The Fire’s offense will have their work cut out for them
against the strong RSL defense. The Fire showed off their counterattack
Saturday against New England, using the speed of wingers Patrick Nyarko and
Dominic Oduro. There’s no defense in the
league that can keep up with the Ghanian wingers, according to MLSsoccer.com.
Real Salt Lake has
been mired in the same mediocre soccer that has plagued them for the past month,
Goal.com reports, partly because the team has been hit with injuries. The team
is expecting reinforcements in Will Johnson (who returns from the Gold Cup),
Alvaro Saborio and Arturo Alvarez who will rebuild the depleted forward corps.
Sean Johnson’s strong
performance in the Fire’s 1-1 tie with the New England Revolution on Saturday earned him the Player of the Week spot
by Chicagoland Soccer News. Despite
having his consecutive shutout minutes streak snapped, the fire goalkeeper made
six saves in the match.
One of Johnson's saves from the game also earned him a nomination for MLS Goal of the Week honors. Vote for the Fire goalkeeper at MLSsoccer.com.
