2010 Chicago Fire Goal of the Year Tournament Voting Day 2
Marco Pappa’s (4/10 vs. San Jose) dominating win over #4 Baggio Husidic (5/1 vs. Chivas USA) Wednesday moves him into the Finals of the Kubik Bracket to take on the winner of #2 Peter Lowry (10/8 vs. Columbus) and #3 Wilman Conde (8/21 at Houston). That match up will take place next Tuesday, November 16.
We move to the Klopas Bracket today where #2 Freddie Ljungberg (10/23 at Chivas) takes on

3 Steven Kinney (9/29 at San Jose).

The matchup: Kinney’s 39th minute goal stood as the winner in the Fire’s dominating 3-0 win at San Jose in September. It was also the first league goal of the rookie defender’s career after previously hitting the bar twice against Real Salt Lake in July and having an effort against Philadelphia called back earlier in September.
Ironically, Kinney’s header, which beat former Fire goalkeeper Jon Busch, came from today’s opponent, Freddie Ljungberg. The Swedish international’s first of two entries in the 2010 tournament also stood as the game winner in the Fire’s 4-1 season ending victory at Chivas USA on October 23. A great ball from Peter Lowry gave Marco Pappa a path into the box where he played a perfect ball for Ljungberg through the legs of Goats defender Mariano Trujillo. The ex-Arsenal winger made no mistake in finishing past former Fire goalkeeper Zach Thornton to put the Fire up 2-0 in the 47th minute.
Voting will run through 10 am CT tomorrow!  Check up the upcoming matchups by viewing our schedule and bracket!
