Former Chicago Fire striker Tomasz Frankowski took his season’s goal total to six, netting on both sides of halftime and playing 90 minutes in Jagiellonia Bialystok’s 3-0 win over Polonia Bytom in Polish Ekstraklasa play Saturday.


The 36-year-old has shown little sign of slowing down as his strikes in the 29th and 48th minutes were complimented by a 90th minute goal from Lithuanian defender Tada Kijanskas. The result keeps takes Jagiellonia to 7-1-1 and 22 points, keeping them on top of the Ekstraklasa table going into Saturday’s clash with Widzew Lodz.


With six goals, Frankowski is tied for second in the league with Widzew’s Lithuanian striker Darvydas Sernas.

Returning from international duty with the United States, Carlos Bocanegra and Saint Etienne fell 2-1 at Nice on Sunday. Saint Etienne took the early lead through Dimitri Payet’s 11th minute penalty kick but surrendered goals to the Tunisian tandem of Anthony Mournier (47th minute) and Hocine Ben Saada (69th minute).


The result takes Les Verts to 5-2-2(17 points) eight-match unbeaten run and keeps the side locked at second in the Ligue 1 table, two points behind Bocanegra’s former team Stade Rennes.


Saint Etienne will hope to play catch up as they host Caen this Saturday.

Cuauhtemoc Blanco played 62 minutes in Irapuato’s 2-1 loss at Mexican Liga Ascenso leaders Tijuana Sunday.   


Irapuato’s Miguel Gutierrez pulled the game level in the 34th minute after Tijuana’s Luis Orozco tallied first in the 15th. The hosts went back ahead in the 55th minute behind Argentine defender Javier Gandolfi’s 55th minute strike.


The loss drops Irapuato to sixth place, sitting 6-5-2 on 20 points, nine behind leaders Tijuana. Irapuato will host Universidad Guadalajara this Saturday, October 23.

Paraguayan defender Lider Marmol played 55 minutes before receiving a red card in Atlante’s 1-1 draw against Tigres. The result takes the side to 2-7-3, sitting on nine points in the Mexican Primera’s Group B. Atlante will visit Atlas this Saturday, October 23.

The result stands as a much needed three points for SuperSport who took their record to 2-2-0, moving the side into ninth place ahead of their Wednesday clash with second-place Ajax Cape town.


 Former Fire defender and Malian international Bakary Soumare and his club US Boulogne will hope to extend their 10-match Ligue 2 unbeaten streak when they host Nantes Monday night.


Soumare’s side sits ninth in the French second division with an undefeated 2-0-8 record on 14 points but can move into sole possession of fifth-place, one point out of a promotion place with a win Monday night.
