Ljungberg eager to begin stay with Fire

Ljungberg was signed by Arsenal in 1998, and played there until 2007

Platters of sweet rolls from a North Side Swedish restaurant seemed an appropriate treat as the Fire celebrated their new Scandinavian star Wednesday.

Freddie Ljungberg, a former English Premier League and Seattle Sounders standout, was introduced as the team's latest acquisition after his first practice at Toyota Park.

And while the trim, 33-year-old Swedish midfielder took a pass on the cinnamon rolls, he said he was ready to dive in at practice.
"It was a lot of running today, but it was good," said Ljungberg, the team's second designated player acquisition in recent weeks. "It looks like we're going to have a good team.

"I knew some of them from before — like (Brian) McBride and Collins John. It couldn't be any better."
