BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – The Chicago Fire announced on Wednesday that club President Dave Greeley will step down from his position on Aug. 31. He will remain with the club as an advisor through the end of the season.
The search to replace Greeley will begin immediately. Javier Leon – managing director of team owner Andrew Hauptman’s company, Andell Sports Group – will assume Greeley’s duties until a successor can be found.
Greeley replaced former Fire President John Guppy in August 2008. Prior to his time with the Fire, Greeley spent six years working for the NFL’s Chicago Bears.
"The past two years have been intensely rewarding for me professionally and I am forever grateful to Andrew Hauptman for giving me this opportunity," Greeley said in a press release.
"To be a part of the Fire's short but sweet history and the overall ascension of soccer here in America has been exciting. I am most proud of the team of professionals we have assembled and all of their accomplishments. With this first-rate crew in place, I can now focus on some other opportunities and interests I would like to consider."
