The
Chicago Fire Soccer Club and the Chicago Fire Foundation in conjunction with
the U.S. Soccer Foundation (USSF) will be collecting donations of new or gently
used soccer equipment at Fire’s match against Philadelphia Union at TOYOTA PARK
on June 5 at 7:30 PM CT (My50) that will be given to youth throughout the
Chicagoland area in an effort to promote the game of soccer.
The
Chicago Fire are looking to collect everything from shin guards, soccer balls
and soccer cleats to socks, water bottles and goalie gloves. Many groups
benefit from the Passback program each year, including Chicagoland area
organizations such as Urban Initiatives, The Salvation Army and Chicago Public
Schools.
“The
Chicago Fire Foundation is proud to partner with the U.S. Soccer Foundation in
this effort. It’s important for children to have access to soccer basics so
they can pursue their dreams of playing the game and the Fire are committed to
that principle,” said Frank Klopas, Chicago Fire Foundation President and Fire
Technical Director.
The
Passback Program is designed to help meet the soccer uniform and equipment
needs of all players in all communities. The Chicago Fire and Chicago
Fire Foundation are proud of this endeavor and are asking fans to help make the
June 5 drive one of the most successful ones to date.
“The
drive is a great opportunity for the team and our fans to help children in the
community who want to play soccer,” said Fire player Logan Pause. “I
wouldn’t be where I am today without having access to basic soccer equipment as
a kid, so every item donated is going to make a difference in some child’s
life.”
