Thorrington, Pause headline long Fire injury list

The Fire will again be without center midfielder John Thorrington for this weekend’s game at D.C. United. Thorrington, who said he hopes to return to training at some point in the next week, has been kept out of every game this season due to a quad injury that he picked up in preseason.

“It’s terribly frustrating,” said Thorrington after training on Tuesday. “It’s been a very trying process for me to have to watch the first three games. It’s the worst part of our job.”

Thorrington will likely be joined on the injury list this weekend by fellow central midfielder Logan Pause. Pause missed last Saturday’s game against San Jose with a left knee injury and hasn’t been able to return to training.

“I’m at a point where it’s just kind of day by day,” Pause said. “I’m trying to get it better and do all of the appropriate things that I need to do.”

In other Fire injury news, forward Collins John and midfielder Patrick Nyarko didn’t participate in full training with the rest of their teammates on Tuesday. Both picked up minor injuries in the San Jose game (Nyarko injured his ankle, John hurt his back) and had an abbreviated practice session yesterday morning.

“It’s nothing to be concerned about,” Fire technical director Frank Klopas said of Nyarko and John’s injuries. “They were out here today and they did a little bit. I think probably tomorrow they’ll be ready to go.”
