Fire midfielder John Thorrington revealed Tuesday that he'll miss Chicago's match at Colorado on Saturday due to a quad injury he picked up in preseason. Thorrington also missed the Fire’s season opener at New York.
"I had a little ... niggle in my left quad heading into the season and I didn't think much of it," Thorrington said after training on Tuesday. "I got a MRI [last week] and it revealed a bit more damage than we were hoping. I've just been undergoing treatment to minimize the time I was going to spend out. It's sort of day-to-day with my symptoms, but we're doing everything we can to make sure I'm back on the field as soon as possible."
There is no specific timetable for Thorrington’s return. However, he did say he's hoping to be able to play in the Fire’s home opener on April 10 against San Jose.
Thorrington’s absence leaves head coach Carlos de los Cobos with one less option in the central midfield -- a position in which the Fire didn't receive much production their loss to the Red Bulls. De los Cobos will likely start two of the central midfield trio of Logan Pause, Peter Lowry and Baggio Husidic -- all of whom saw playing time against New York -- on Saturday.
