Fire waive Washington, Woolard

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced today the club has waived defenders Austin Washington and Daniel Woolard. Washington was drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft and appeared in nine games in two years with the club. Woolard was drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft. In three seasons with the Fire, Woolard appeared in 16 games, starting six of them.

In 2009, Washington appeared in eight league matches, starting four of them. The 25-year old defender helped lead the Fire to the 2009 SuperLiga Final, appearing in three matches, starting two, as the Fire finished runner-up, falling 4-3 on penalty kicks to UANL. Woolard came up through the Chicago Fire reserve division and broke into the first team in 2008, earning two starts in eight appearances. The Bedford, Texas product scored his first MLS goal against the New York Red Bulls on Oct. 23, 2008.
