Sean Johnson, Mike Magee and goalkeeping coach Aron Hyde head to Brazil with USMNT
The U.S. Soccer Federation announced Sunday that Fire forward Mike Magee and goalkeeper Sean Johnson will continue with the U.S. Men’s National Team as they head to Sao Paulo, Brazil for the second phase of this month’s camp.
Klinsmann had originally planned on cutting the roster down to 23 players for the trip but decided against it after a strong first week of training at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
“We have been extremely pleased with the performance of the group in the first week,” said Klinsmann in a statement. “The players came in very fit and have done really well in training. Therefore, we believe they have all earned a chance to go to Brazil for these next 12 days.”
The pair will also be joined in Brazil by Fire goalkeeping coach Aron Hyde, who will serve as a guest coach during the team’s 12-day stay in Brazil. The Fire announced last week that the Englishman would return for a fifth straight season overseeing the club’s goalkeeping corps.
“It’s a tremendous honor to work with the U.S. Men’s National Team,” Hyde told Chicago-Fire.com. “I’m excited for the opportunity to get some work in with Sean and to help the team prepare for this summer’s World Cup.”
